Lubuntu Docky & Compositing

Classified in : Ubuntu derivatives - Tags : docky, composite

If you want to install Docky in Lubuntu, you would need to activate compositing !

If you want a dock application in Lubuntu, the best choice would be Docky: Cairo is a bit too heavy (and needs reconfiguration for the apps not present) and AWN does not mix well with LXDE (it will install a lot of Gnome packages and will need quite a lot of reconfiguration).

To activate compositing in Lubuntu, just follow insctructions on the article of the great blog Lubuntu Tips.

Last but not least; in Docky preferences choose the masking  "Avoid Windows" (or intelligent masking) that will allow Docky to display without truncating other windows.
